The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. This September, 2017, IFLA would have been in existence for 90 years.

The IFLA Global vision was presented by the out-going LIAZ President Mrs. Munsanje at the recently held Annual General Conference in Siavonga from July 18 to 21, 2017.

Call for papers for LIAZ 2017 Annual Conference

The Library and Information Association of Zambia Editorial Board invites paper proposals for presentations to be made at the next LIAZ Annual Conference to be held from 18th – 21st July, 2017 at Lake Safari Lodge, in Siavonga.

cropped-logoLIAZ2.jpgThe Conference will provide librarians, archivists, records managers, and other information professionals with an opportunity to exchange information about library and other information services and other projects throughout Zambia.

Through its Editorial Board, LIAZ invites librarians and other information professionals to submit presentation proposals.

The 2017 Annual Conference theme is “The Role of information institutions in the attainment of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals”.

Sub-themes include:
• Increased access to information and knowledge
• Libraries, record centres, archives and museums in national development and planning
• Use of ICTs in promoting SDGs
• Innovative library and information services for national development
• Advocacy of SDGs through information service provision

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Proposals, presentations, and papers must be written and delivered in English, which is the working language of the conference. For submission guidelines and additional information, please see below.
Proposals should include:

a. Title of the presentation
b. Name, title, author (s), institutional affiliation, and full contact information (including a valid e-mail address) for each presenter
c. Abstract (300-500 words); in Times New Roman; font 12; single spacing
d. A short biographical profile of each presenter
Proposals/abstracts should be submitted electronically (as a single Microsoft Word attachment) to email to benson.njobvu@gmail.com and copy to liaz@zambia.co.zm by 31st March, 2017.

SELECTION PROCESS
Twelve (12) proposals/abstracts will be selected. All proponents will be notified of the selection results by 14th April, 2017
Final full papers to be received by 15th May, 2017. (Note that there shall not be any extension to this deadline)

PRESENTATION FORMAT
Presentations will run for 20 minutes each, followed by a Q&A session. Presenters are encouraged to prepare a dynamic and interactive presentation, incorporating visual prompts, technologies, games, questions for the audience, etc. Power Points are common, but speakers who would want to read a paper or refer to it are welcome to do so. In either case, presenters are encouraged to submit a formal paper (5000-10,000 words), to be included in the Library and Information Association Conference Proceedings. The paper should be typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, 1.5 spacing, and an appropriate citation and referencing style. Illustrations should be clearly labeled.
